This list is published, not monitored. An address that opens is not an address that is genuine, and the check that settles it takes under a minute.
Closing an account
Almost nobody does this deliberately. People simply stop, which leaves several things behind that are worth more to other people than to them.
- What this step is
- Winding down deliberately rather than drifting away from an account that still exists.
- How to prepare
- Nothing outstanding. Orders completed, disputes closed, balance withdrawn.
- What you will see
- Possibly nothing. Many platforms have no explicit closure, so this is a procedure you perform rather than one the interface offers.
- How it works
- Whatever the platform holds continues to exist. What you control is the balance, the credentials and what is left on your own machine.
- How long it takes
- An hour, spread across however long the last order takes to close out.
- What you will experience
- A pull to leave it in case, which is the impulse this page exists to argue against.
- What can go wrong
- An abandoned account with a balance, credentials still reused elsewhere, and addresses left saved for a distracted evening later.
- Benefits and limits
- It removes what you control. It does not remove records held by anybody else, and nothing can.
The sequence
- Close out everything open. Do not walk away with an order in flight, because a delivery window will pass unnoticed and a dispute filed late is a dispute lost.
- Withdraw the balance in full. An abandoned balance is the single most common thing left behind.
- Change the password to something random you do not keep. This is deliberate. An account you cannot get back into is an account nobody else gets into either.
- Delete saved addresses. Not archive, delete. A retired address kept just in case is one you might paste months later, and that failure has its own page in recycled address.
- Clear what is on your own machine. Wallet files, notes, saved pages, anything in a downloads folder.
Why an abandoned account is worth something
Because standing is transferable and history is not checkable. An account with real activity and an inattentive owner is worth buying or taking over, and it arrives pre trusted. The person who abandoned it is not harmed directly, and everybody who later trusts it is, which is a reason to close deliberately even when nothing of yours remains at stake.
What you cannot remove
Anything the platform recorded, anything a vendor kept, anything on a chain, and any feedback you left. None of that is under your control and no procedure changes it. The honest framing is that closing an account limits future exposure rather than reversing past exposure, and treating it as a clean slate is the one mistake this page is trying to prevent.
